Sony Xperia phones in 2018 could sport full-screen displays, renders suggest

first_imgWhile most of the major tech giants this year kept with the bezel-less trend and launched phones with full-screen displays, Sony stuck to its guns and continued to bring out handsets with chunky bezels. But even the Japanese conglomerate knows that it needs to keep up with the times, which is why we could see the company finally hop on the bezel-less bandwagon with two upcoming Xperia smartphones. Some renders have now surfaced giving us a look at what we can expect from Sony in 2018.The renders, courtesy Vortex.ge, have been based on Sony’s own design drafts. They show a couple of Xperia smartphones, one flagship and the other a non-flagship model, with minimal bezels on the front. While both the phones show full-screen displays, the flagship Xperia model is tipped to be the one with sharper corners and reflective rear panel. The non-flagship model, on the other hand, will sport a metal unibody design with the fingerprint sensor on the back.Additionally, the renders suggest that the flagship model will highlight dual front-facing speakers, dual rear cameras that are quite a apart from each other and a 4K display of unknown size. It is also reported to come with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset that was announced this week. Notably, the fingerprint sensor is tipped to be under the display, which would make it one of the first smartphones to feature that. However, it’s still early in the day for these reports and you should take them with a pinch of salt.advertisementAlso Read: Sony working on a bezel-less smartphone for next year, may announce it at MWCThe other Xperia handset is also expected to sport dual front-facing  speakers and a dual rear camera setup. The renders also keep the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, for those who were wondering. These are early renders of the upcoming Xperia devices suggesting Sony’s roadmap in 2018, but are in no way set in stone. If true, it will be a pleasant shift for the company who has been criticised in the past for going with outdated looks. Indeed, after consumers’ eyes have been tuned to edge-to-edge displays now, it will be difficult to accept chunky bezeled smartphones from Sony in 2018.As per a report late last month, Sony could unveil at least one bezel-less smartphone during MWC 2018 in late February. A leaked spec sheet of the Sony device with model number H854 suggests that the phone could come with a 5.7-inch 4K HDR display, 3,420mAh battery, 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Sony is yet to confirm any of these reports.last_img read more
