All-Antelope Valley: Football

first_img DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR Allan Mohan, Sr., LB, Antelope Valley Following a junior season in which he recorded 115 tackles, it didn’t surprise Mohan to see teams running plays away from the side he was lined up on. It didn’t matter to Mohan, either, because he still found ways to track down opposing ballcarriers. In one of Antelope Valley High’s best seasons of the past decade, Mohan was one of the catalysts, recording 126 tackles (76 solo), and was selected the Golden League’s top defensive player. The Antelopes defeated Palmdale 22-19 to secure a share of the league title, in large part because of the abilities of Mohan, Andre Crenshaw and D’Andre Goodwin to slow down the Falcons’ explosive offense. Mohan, who finished the season with four sacks and an interception, led Antelope Valley to an eight-win season, highlighted by a 45-22 victory over Leuzinger of Lawndale in the opening round of the Div. III playoffs. Although the Antelopes were the only Golden League team to reach the quarterfinals, their run ended against champion Dominguez of Compton in a 41-10 setback. Mohan also was an underrated running back, rushing for 507 yards and two touchdowns in limited action behind starter Crenshaw. – Erik Boal DAILY NEWS ALL-ANTELOPE VALLEY Offense QB: Rodney Trimm, Sr., Palmdale RB: Dominic Blood, Sr., Palmdale RB: Micah Littlejohn, Sr., Highland WR: Brandon McLaughlin, Sr., Palmdale WR: Casey Schlock, Sr., Vasquez TE: Randy Burton, Sr., Antelope Valley TE/OL: Kolin Brown, Jr., Highland OL: Jake Dean, Sr., Paraclete OL: Hayworth Hicks, Jr., Palmdale OL: Spencer Johnson, Sr., Antelope Valley OL: Dillon Bennewitz, Jr., Quartz Hill K: Brett Lloyd, So., Antelope Valley Defense DL: Darrell Hicks, Sr., Palmdale DL: Ryan Cambaliza, Sr., Littlerock DL: Nathan Drakes, Sr., Lancaster DL: Darius Roberts, Sr., Antelope Valley LB: Brad Kostopoulos, Sr., Boron LB: Vernard Wilkins, Sr., Highland LB: Eric Leon, Sr., Rosamond LB: Bryan Meek, Sr., Lancaster DB: Tony Jackson, Sr., Lancaster DB: Andre Crenshaw, Sr., Antelope Valley DB: D’Andre Goodwin, Sr., Antelope Valley 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR Tyreace House, Sr., WR, Palmdale It just doesn’t matter where he lined up on offense, nor how Falcons coach Jeff Williams found a way to get him the ball, once House had it in his hands, excitement usually followed. Although Palmdale High played one of its toughest schedules, one featuring three-time Southern Section Div. XI champion Oaks Christian of Westlake Village, two-time Div. X champ Crespi of Encino and Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks – winner of three of the past four Div. III titles – House kept the Falcons competitive with outstanding athleticism and impressive versatility. It marked the fourth consecutive year the Falcons captured a league championship. As a member of the league’s most explosive offense – featuring quarterback Rodney Trimm, running back Dominic Blood and receiver Brandon McLaughlin – House was able to stretch the field as a receiver and pick up important yards on the ground. House was selected as the Golden League’s Player of the Year by its seven coaches. He finished the season with 36 receptions for 794 yards and gained another 524 yards on the ground in 56 carries, scoring 13 touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns came in Palmdale’s 42-36 loss to Mira Costa of Manhattan Beach in the opening round of the Div. III playoffs. – Erik Boal last_img read more
