DONEGAL HARBOURS TO GET €920,000 IN FUNDING

first_imgDonegal piers and harbours are to receive over €920,000 in funding under the 2015 Fishery Harbours Capital Investment Programme.Dinny McGinley TDThe news has been welcomed by Fin Gael TD Dinny McGinley.He described it as a real boost to our fishing industry. Minister Simon Coveney has announced increased funding of €5 million for a number of projects under the 2015 Fishery Harbours Capital Investment Programme, bringing the total capital investment under this programme in 2015 to €22.9 million.Deputy McGinley said “I am delighted that as part of this funding, Killybegs Harbour is to receive €845,000. €500,000 for the Small Craft harbour, €120,000 for additional cradles for syncrolift, €110,000 for electrical works, €70,000 for safety works and €45,000 for traffic management.“Donegal County Council is also to receive €82,500 in funding for repairs to Burtonport Quay Wall and construction of beacons at the clutch and barr rocks, as well as the installation of new light and solar equipment at Insihirrer Island and Ravedy Island.“This funding comes just one month after the announcement that local authority piers and harbours are receiving €1.6 million in state funding under the Local Authority Harbour Development and Marine Leisure programme. “Our fishing, marine and tourism industries depend so much on this infrastructure around the coastline of Ireland, and the local community here in Donegal really depend on Killybegs Harbour.“Fine Gael is standing up for rural Ireland and working to ensure the fruits of the economic recovery are felt right across the country.
